Lake Bunyonyi lies on 1,950 metres above sea level and is around 25 km long and 7 km wide. It is famous for being the second deepest fresh water lake in Africa (900 meters), though this holds only for some small parts. What make it special are numerous islands (29) and abundant birds (more than 200 species). "Bunyonyi" actually means "the place of little birds". There is no bilharzia in this lake.
